Rotary Event 2013

12 Teams of five took part in the 2013 Rotary Challenge, competing at archery (above) and five other events. A great day was had by competitors and spectators alike.

The event raised £940 for charity, £800 of which has already been allocated to the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity Rotary Club of Hythe already supports.

Indian meal in Abbeville

Six members and partners from Hythe enjoyed sharing an Indian Meal with friends from our contact club at Abbeville. The meal was a organised by Abbeville Rotarian Anton Joseph to raise funds to build a little house in South India. For 25 euros we enjoyed an aperitif, a three course meal with wine at the table, a great atmoshphere and real Rotary Fellowship.

Clay Pigeon Shootout at Dover

About 20 members and families took part in the Clay Pigeon Shoot held at Dover, followed by a Picnic Lunch at Russell Gardens near to Kearsney Abbey.

"Raid" on Abbeville

Seven Rotarians and partners enjoyed meeting our friends from the Rotary Club of Abbeville, and sharing a splendid dinner. Even those of us with minimal French were delighted by the speaker, Pierre Schwinte. He is a most remarkable young man and it was good to be able to share his adventure to the "top of the world"!

500 Club Draw Results

The club are to be congratulated on a 100% participation in the Foundation 500 club, resulting in over £2000 being raised with over £1000 going to Foundation and Polio Plus. Winners of the January 2011 Draw (the second of seven) were:

Lincoln Green at Leeds castle

Robin Hood, or Friar Tuck at least, came to Leeds Castle in the form of John Howard to persuade people to throw wet sponges at ‘sinners’. Bravely taking their place in the stocks were John Howard, Mark Tague, Ken Berkin and President David.

Proms in the Hall

With the rendering sounds of Land of Hope and Glory and Rule Britannia and other Proms favourites, 120 Rotarians and friends attended our first Proms in the Hall Concert direct from the Royal Albert Hall and Hyde Park on Saturday, 11th September at Hythe Bay School. The evening proved to be highly successful with drinks, food, hats and flags which gave the evening a real festive party mood with most party goers dressed in patriotic colours.

International Summer BBQ

On Friday, 30th July, the Rotary Club of Hythe held their annual summer barbeque at the Hythe Cricket Club.

120 Rotarians, partners and friends enjoyed good food, fellowship and field games during the evening, together with demonstrations and displays of Hythe Rotary International Projects for the coming year.

International Chairman John Engelbretson thanked all those who helped and supported the event, which raised £1,300.

Installation Evening 2010

New President David Owen receives the chain of office from Outgoing President Dereck Hancock. The theme from both men was the was that everybody is valued.

Contact Weekend 2010

Six Rotarians and four partners travelled to Doetinchem for a splendid weekend of International Fellowship and enjoyment.
